FAISALABAD:

Some Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) employees on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration over alleged illegal appointments in the company.

Pegham Union general secretary Mian Iftikhar Ahmad said the FESCO authorities on Tuesday had decided to make hundreds of bogus appointments in the company on the last day of the Federal government’s tenure.

Ahmad said a list of as many as 500 favourite ‘candidates’ was being finalised before the conspiracy was foiled by the union activists.

The protestors blocked the canal road and chanted slogans against FESCO authorities.

Pegham Union chief organiser Abid Rasheed Gujjar said the authorities should adhere to a policy of recruitment on merit.

The protestors also appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the matter.

FESCO deputy director (public relations) Tahir Shaikh said the protestors’ demands were premature as the company had not made any appointments yet.
