Professor Khalid Masood Gondal was elected the president of the Society of Surgeons Pakistan.
Professor Gondal, a professor of surgery at King Edward Medical University, is serving as regional director and director general International Relations at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).
Talking to The Express Tribune on Friday, Professor Gondal said that all the chapters of the society would be made proactive and an organised system would be devised to improve coordination among surgeons. He plans to focus on surgical education, training, telemedicine and robotic surgery. “A strategy will be formed to provide the facilities for the surgery at different hospitals,” he said.
Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry, the president of CPSP, while addressing the inaugural session of the biennial international conference of the Society of Surgeons of Pakistan said that the demand for Pakistani surgeons was increasing the world over.
Chaudhry also announced a new Surgical Oncology fellowship at the CPSP, adding that the college planned on adding more fellowships in other surgical specialties soon.
“The CPSP has made international Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) courses mandatory for trainee doctors,” he said, “so that they can provide better healthcare services to the peoples of Pakistan.”
