Construction on the Punjab University Road has been going on for three days and will continue for five more days, The Express Tribune has learnt.
Closure of the road has been causing frequent traffic jams on Wahdat Road as vehicles headed from Iqbal Town to the PU Campus are forced to take a detour to Canal Road. The 1,000 feet road is being reconstructed at a cost of Rs55 million. It will be widened by 10 feet at some points. The road will be re-carpeted; the median and traffic signals would be upgraded and LED streetlights would be installed to conserve electricity, LDA Deputy Director Chaudary Latif said. The Lahore Development Authority has awarded the contract for road construction to Habib Constructions. He said he expected the road to be completed on time. No trees would be chopped for the project and a drain will be added to draw off rain water, he said.
