A man was beaten up by the police on Monday allegedly for failing to produce his motorcycle registration papers.
Khayal Khan, a baker, said that he was stopped by policemen near Islampura Chowk on his way to work. He said they asked him for his motorcycle registration papers which he said he was not carrying. He said when he requested them to let him go, “they started abusing him” which led to an argument that ended in them beating him up.
He said they then took him to the police station and again beat him up.
City station house officer said that Khan was taken to the police station because he neither had his driving licence or the registration papers. He said he was beaten when he tried to flee. He said Khan was let go after he called someone who brought the papers.
Bridegroom, friends gets thrashed
In Chichawatni, a general bus stand contractor and his men beat up a bridegroom and his friends when he allegedly refused to pay the toll. Police said the bridegroom, Allah Bakhsh, and his friends and family were on their way to Khairpur from Gojra. At a bus stand in Chichawatni, they refused to pay the Rs30 toll saying they had already paid it. At this, Muhammad Hanif, the contractor, and his men beat the groom up. Some of his friends who tried to save him were also beaten up.
They also damaged the groom’s car. The matter was later sorted out after some one called the police.
