ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif was cleared of tax evasion in a report submitted by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday, reported Express News.

Another report sent by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) stated that Shahbaz Sharif was also not involved in tax evasion. The report added that Shahbaz paid taxes worth Rs4.947 million in the last three years.

The report further stated that cases were being heard against Shahbaz in the Rawalpindi Accountability Court and in the Lahore High Court but there has been no record of conviction or of plea bargain.

The FBR also cleared PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of tax evasion.

Earlier, former interior minister Rehman Malik had called upon the election commission to disqualify the Sharif brothers under Articles 62 and 63.

Malik had accused the Sharif brothers of concealing facts about where they managed to obtain Rs30 million, which they used to get their sealed property, at Raiwind, released. That amount was never shown on tax return papers, he said.
