LAHORE:

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Monday directed the Ministry of Water and Power to submit a report about steps taken to control electricity theft and loadshedding.

Earlier, the ministry’s joint secretary Zargham Shah appeared before the court and stated that the shortage of water in dams and of gas were the reasons behind the increased loadshedding.

The judge was hearing a petition questioning the “discriminatory and unannounced” electricity loadshedding in the Punjab.

The petitioner’s counsel pointed out that the decision of Council of Common Interest regarding restoration of 300 MW electricity to the national grid after withdrawing from the KESC had not been implemented so far.

However, Shah told the court that the Sindh High Court had issued a stay order against the decision. The chief justice adjourned the hearing till April 19 and directed the ministry to apprise the court about steps taken to control loadshedding.
