On the orders of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Aftab Sultan, the special cell set up in the Operation Branch of the Central Police Office (CPO) was formally activated on Monday to take immediate action in case of any violation and to ensure proper implementation of the Code of Conduct for the Elections 2013.
The Cell is operating under the direct supervision of the IGP and submits monitoring reports on a daily basis.
AIG (Operations) Ali Nasir Rizvi presented the first monitoring report to the IGP on Monday about violations in five districts.
According to the report, Gujrat district Police, during the last three days, reported 23 cases including three on the charges of firing in the air, 8 cases of display of weapons and 13 of possession of illegal arms.
The police took action and arrested 26 people and recovered 50 arms from them including 27 pistols, 13 rifles, a gun and 9 Kalashnikovs besides 9,345 bullets.
In Chiniot district, the police registered four cases of possession of illegal weapons, arrested three people and recovered three arms including three repeaters, a pistol and 55 bullets from their possession.
In Kasur district, the police reported one case of illegal weapon, arrested five people and recovered one pistol from their possession.
In Hafizabad district, the police registered 10 cases including one of firing in the air, two cases of display of weapons and seven of possession of illegal weapons. The police took action and arrested 13 people and recovered 13 arms including six pistols, six rifles and one Kalashnikov from them.
Similarly, the district police of Sialkot registered 11 cases of possession of illegal weapons. While taking action against the violators, the police arrested 11 people and recovered 11 arms from their possession including 9 pistols, a shot gun and a pump action gun.
