Youth festival: Two-day fair opens at Expo Centre for job-seeking youth

Teams from Lahore and Rawalpindi on Saturday progressed to final of the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) blind cricket tournament.

Rawalpindi defeated Bahawalpur in the first semi-final held at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET).

Batting first, Rawalpindi scored 137 and bowled out Bahawalpur 13 runs short of the target.

Lahore defeated Gujranwala in the second semi-final.

Lahore had accumulated 158 runs. Gujranwala were struck out for 89 runs.

The finals will be played on Sunday (today).

Meanwhile, a two-day job fair opened at the Expo Centre on Saturday.

Punjab Sports Board Director General Usman Anwar inaugurated the fair.

“We have organised the job fair to be a bridge between the job-seeking youth and the companies. The youth will have a chance here to find jobs that match their skills and capabilities,” he said.

He said 20,000 to 30,000 youngsters were expected to register for job interviews.

He said 62 potential had set up their stalls at the job fair, including the Descon, the Bureau of Immigration, the OGDC, the National Manpower Bureau, the Ministry of Overseas Employment and Human Resource, the TEVTA, the Skill Department Fund and the PVC.

Several films were exhibited at the film festival at the Alhamra Cultural Complex. Syed Noor, Passo Tonale from Germany and Professor Iqbal judged the films.

A Robo War competition will be held on Sunday (today) at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex.

The competition will be held between robots developed by the youth.

A computer and video games contest was also held at the Punjab Sports Complex.

On the opening day of the first round of the event, 1,400 youth participated in the football video game FIFA 2013, computer car racing and shooting games.

At the end of the first round, 300 advanced to the next round of the FIFA football game, 150 reached next round of car racing and 250 youth qualified for the second round of the shooting game.

The video games competition will end on Sunday at 7pm.

South Asian Bodybuilding Championship

Bodybuilders from Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan will compete in the bodybuilding event which will open on Sunday (today) at Al Hamra Hall One.

The Indian bodybuilding team, which was expected to feature in the event, will not participate because the Indian government did not issue them an NOC.

The bodybuilders will participate in Mr and Junior Mr South Asia contests.

The weighing of the bodybuilders was completed on Saturday. Leading bodybuilders of Pakistan will judge in the event.

According to Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation (PBF) aecretary Farooq Iqbal, arrangements have been completed for the competition.
